During my time with quo connect, we developed a unique view on the maintenance costs of components during a project for cost optimization for internal use. We built a simple but fully functional prototype with the help of MS Excel and VBA. This new tool established a systematic view of the cost drivers for components for the first time. The client set the prototype into operation and ordered the transformation into a tool within the own SAP system. I managed the whole IT development, including process support, user training, and rollout. Nowadays, they use the tool as the standard for analysis and forecasts of maintenance costs. I was surprised that there was no view on the costs based on cost drivers and the challenges with the final IT development, although I had expected them a little.
